Health Tip: Actively engaging in any type of physical activity can potentially lead to an injury. The goal is to stay active and maintain a sense of independence throughout life, while minimizing the risk of injury. The following are just a few tips to help you achieve your desired fitness goals, injury-free.

Safety Guidelines

  1. Avoid jumping into an intense workout session before warming up. It may seem like a waste of time, but 5-10 minutes of warming up decreases the risk of injury by allowing the body time to transition from a resting state to more appropriately handle the stress of exercise.

  2. Gradually increase the duration, intensity and resistance of your exercise program

  3. Stretching relaxes the muscles and improves range of motion around the joints

  4. Cool down after each activity to restore the body back to homeostasis
